The WindTP concept emerged from UK government funded research through research awards made to the University of Nottingham – mainly through EPSRC. Through these grants, we have sufficient resource to advance the technology to the point where a 60kW demonstrator system (using an electric motor to replicate the wind turbine rotor input) will be realised and tested. This work will continue until the end of 2016. WindTP is presently soliciting a next round of HMG/EU support to take the technology to the level of a 750kW demonstrator. This will involve a total investment of several million pounds – of which at least 60% is expected to be provided by grant funding. The remainder is being sourced from private investment and partnerships with wind turbine manufacturers.
